I had the privilege of having Kelley as the nurse who cared for my Mother in the last seven day's of her life. I moved her to the Hospice center Kelley works at late on a Saturday night. The first thing she did was comfort us, and ask for time with my Mom before we all went in her room. In one hour she bathed, and shaved her, something that had not been done by the facility she was at for months, and blessed her with restoring her dignity. She came out to get us and told me "we gave your Mom a spa treatment" and indeed she did! My Mother looked the most peaceful from that one hour than she had the last 7-months she spent in a nursing home. Kelley herself did not tell me about her book, but almost every nurse we encountered did so I had to get it. I ordered it and it was to arrive a week later but, on my device I had with me gave me a sneak preview. I couldn't stop reading it and when I told Kelley where it stopped she said, wow you can't stop there. The next night she brought me a signed copy so I could finish the story I was on and as much as I could in between spending time with my Mom. She cared for my Mom just like she did everyone she mentions in her stories. In fact all the nurses did. It was the best week of my Mom's life and I know she went home to God peacefully and with every ounce of her dignity and respect she deserved in tact. God blessed my family and I with the choice to move her, Kelley and the rest of the staff made her the queen she was for a week. I finished her book in three day's and want to read it again, I loved it and her.
I love this book. I am a nurse myself and have witness a lot of dying patients.I believe all her stories are true because in my over 40 years of nursing experience i have seen the worse and best of people. Those who have hatred in their hearts always die not happy campers. Those with peace and resignation die peacefully. Being Catholic i've always prayed for my patients whether good or bad always believing in God's mercy. I definitely recommend this book.
I love reading personal stories of people dealing with medical issues, especially end-of-life issues. The author is an RN who spent many years as an Emergency Room nurse and several as a Hospice nurse. Although most of the accounts are heart-warming, there are a few that suggest that not everyone will have a peaceful transition, or the Heaven outcome they want.
Absolutely loved this book! I'm a nurse, so could relate to the circumstances Kelley spoke about. What a variety of situations, but all with the same overall theme of near-death experiences...that of overwhelming peace and love upon meeting Jesus. So comforting and helpful when facing a loved one's approaching death. I've read it three times now (and I NEVER like a book that much to re-read it even once!) I bought it for 3 friends who have in turn also loved it and purchased it for multiple friends and family members too. Kelley has an easy to understand style (especially when explaining medical situations to non-medical people), and the stories were varied in their joyfulness and sadness. It's definitely a heart-warming book (even though some of the situations were difficult to read when abuse was involved), but I would definitely recommend it to anyone wondering about what happens as death nears. A 10 out of 10 for me!
This was a truly great book, and I would highly recommend it to anyone dealing with life and death issues, or just curious about end of life issues. It stated out slow, then crescendoed in the middle, and I couldn't put it down.Amazing read!
Deeply moving, sometimes comical, sometimes disturbing, very realistic all the way through and difficult to set down once you start. Thank you, Kelley for sharing these stories with more than the wide circles of family/friends/acquaintances you have. It seems obvious that those whom you were blessed to meet and care for and those who have found God in eternity have interceded for you personally and no doubt your family, but also obtained the ability for you to write this book. Words cannot convey the appreciation one feels as one story leads to the next. I felt charmed by the lady who baked the banana cream pie for Jesus. It's a beautiful gift she and her husband had to make the bakery. I like to think that even though staff found forks and ice water still on the table, Jesus escorted her home and there he decided to invite his Mother also along with her husband and all those who tried her pies actually to have a piece. Now tell me that's impossible..... If planets can blend harmonious notes with other heavenly bodies the Lord can see her smile as she watches Him eat his first piece. God bless you!
As an old geriatric nurse I enjoyed the rich mix of stories, from the beautiful and serene to the scared and scary.I think the wording is such that even the non medical type readers will enjoy this book.
As described in her description. These are several little stories she tells of incidences she witnessed at a hospice where she works as a nurse. The stories are written well and interesting...easy to read. The stories both made you more comfortable with dying and drives home the point that demons and eternal hell are also an alternative to blissful heaven. I like that as it is true and it encourages you to stay in a good state/relationship with God who is Mercy and Love and Able...able to save as long as you sincerely repent of any sin.It also reminds us to PRAY DAILY FOR THE DYING!! They need our prayers. One day, it may be you and you'd appreciate it.Anyone, it is not dull, each story grabs you and reads well and easy and fast. I recommend reading it.
