I found this book very helpful, but was quite surprised to find that there was no map of the country included. As we were driving throughout Slovenia having a detailed road map of the entire country, vs just a page showing the general area, would have been a great addition.I understand there is GPS systems, phones with navigation, etc. But believe me we had all that and in the end had to stop for a good old fashion road map to help guide us to some of our destinations.The where to eat and sleep are a bit limited, but still good choices.I was upset over the fact that there was no mention in the Skocjan cave write-up about proper shoes, clothing, no cameras until the very end, many steps, etc. And unfortunately this information isn't given when you first arrive at the ticket counter (and your car is nearby.) You are led by a guide for nearly 15 minutes down a long gravel road and just as you enter the caves you are told about the inside conditions and what you should be wearing. I think this is important types of information for a guide book to include.Otherwise it is a very nice book and still worth the purchase.
Great for browsing and figuring out where to travel to in this small but lovely country. Full of lots of beautiful photos and interesting historical facts and information. Not good for practical travel tips or planning a trip. I would stick with the Lonely Planet book for that.
I very much appreciated finding this travel guide on line as I could not find any travel guides locally. I like to be familiarized with a country before I go there and this book provided that opportunity. Highlights of this country were the castles, history, mountains, seacoast, caves, Lippizan stallions, wine, sea salt, and olive production. People were very friendly and helpful, plus many spoke numerous languages including English. The crime levels are low and we felt very safe in Slovenia.
Since Slovenia is not as horribly over-travelled as many neighboring countries (Italy, for instance), this book was a welcome addition to our trip. It was thorough and provided a much-appreciated historical background to the country that I found particularly illuminating.Additionally, the small physical size of the book made it easy to throw in my back pocket and use it at will. I would recommend this to anyone visiting Slovenia (which I would also recommend be included in any visit to central Europe!!!)
Third trip to Slovenia, finally got this book. Compared to other guides, this is the best to have. Points out off-the-beaten-path towns and things to see that we had missed on previous years. Great city/town guides and maps.
always the best if there is a DK guide available for your destination. Clear pictures. Hours of operation, tram stops, a general section on security, ATMs etc. I must have bought 40 DK guides by now for all over the world.
Great guide for our journey. We were fortunate enough to visit about 80% of the places in this book, and hope to use it again soon.
