The tone was not as accepting as I have found Cunningham in other works. It lists off specific details that I don't fond necessary then stays 'if you fail even that' like we're failing in our craft over his versions of a perfect location/details/specifics. Reading other reviews I thought it was the general negativity and misunderstanding of witch craft. I thought maybe a few parts were a bit detailed and lengthy and 'required'... but the whole book seems very judgemental. It makes things sound like things have to be that specific way or it's wrong, or were wrong, and that's the only way. THERE IS NO ONLY WAY. this does have some information that is useful but I think it can all be found online. I can't really recommend this book like I have others. Please keep in mind that for me the craft is meant to be about love and inner peace. You don't need a ton of supplies or specific circumstances and locations to do your work. Find what works for you and that's OKAY! don't let this book be the reason you stop trying to learn more or give up.
I've had this book for years now and I'm just reviewing it.Let me just say, doing herbal spells is NOT for the faint of heart.The spells are powerful. I have done spells and seen results as quickly as2 weeks, and have done spells that have worked over time to bring the correctcircumstances to my life.I've used herbal protection spells for myself, family, and friends. I highly recommendthis book for the herbal witch.
The information in this book can not be matched. I know everyone is into the internet these days, but why do that when the information is all contained in one book? Save yourself hours of websurfing. Get this book.

As usual, Scott Cunningham is a wonder of clarity and deep knowledge. I frequently wonder how much more he could have done had he lived longer. I say a prayer for him every time I pick up one of his books.
I love everything about this book. I have read many MANY books about magical herbalism and have yet to find one that was organized in a fashion to which one can actually follow along and know what they are doing. I am so eternally grateful to have found this book. Thank you

This is the most awesome book in my rather large occult collection. I bought this book in 1989 and I still use it all the time. Scott Cunningham's books are a great source for those interested in Magickal pursuits. This books give you step by step insturctions, list of things you will need to start doing magick (everything from how to set up you altar to what kind of mind-set you need to have), and tons of resources where you can get all your magickal tools. My copy is out-of-date, but hopefully they have updated the lists. It is also beautifully illustrated. The only problem I had was that it is not spiral-bound so it is hard to keep the book open while you are trying out new spells or setting up your altar. If you want a book to start you off, this is it.
