These Reader's Digest books have been an invaluable resource for me as a music educator, and now, in retirement, they keep on giving fun with old songs and great memories. I got this one because my group that sings in nursing homes has realized that it is time to add more post-1950 songs to our repertoire. A 77-year-old friend recently visited, and swore she knew every one of the songs in this one.
Really enjoy the spiral bound music books. They are easy to use and stay open to the proper page. Many of the jazz chords seemed discordant, not my style.
Very nice selection. I can play most, despite my typical "easy play" abilities
Great oldies. Some of the arrangements are complicated but most are very nicely arranged. Love those oldies.
The book arrived very quickly, and in excellent condition. The song selection is nice. But I'm having trouble enjoying it. Maybe the music really was this boring, and it is simply a difficult task to create interesting arrangements. But this RD volume seems to be below par in the arrangement department, compared to the others I own. Pretty much every song I'm feeling the need to do a bunch of filling in just to keep up my interest. Do I need backup singers here? And a band behind me? One thing that does consistently irritate me about RD songbooks--there is this what I guess is meant for an organ pedal low base line, which is often really essential to fill out the chords, but the stretch for any normal hands on the piano is just impossible, so I am constantly jumping around trying to make it all work together smoothly. I've played almost through the book, and I'm sorry to say that it likely won't be opened again very often.
My Mom saw this book on the piano in the common room of her assisted living facility. She was very excited to find it and asked me to see if I could get it for her. She enjoys it and pages through it singing various songs. Since she is losing her mental acuity, this song book means a lot to her.
Excellent collection of 50s songs for group singalongs!
A great collection of golden oldies. I would love to see Amazon.com publish a copy of the tables of contents of their songbooks so browsing customers can get a better idea of what they choose.
